Legal Update:  Health & Welfare Benefit Plans
9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Wally Miller, Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt

Change is the only constant in the legal world of health and welfare benefit plans. Wally will walk us through the most important developments on the legislative and litigation fronts over the past several months, including:
  • The federal lawsuit, brought by 20 GOP states and supported by the Department of Justice, that seeks to override the pre-existing condition prohibition and other provisions of the ACA;
  • The particulars and implications of Oregon's rebuttal of the new federal Association Health Plan regulations; and
  • Bills passed by the House, with bi-partisan support, enhancing the use of HSAs.

Wally Miller helps employers ensure that their retirement and welfare benefit plans comply with applicable state and federal laws. Since entering the employee benefit field 35 years ago, he has assisted clients in working through a cascade of new laws, from the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) through the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Pension Protection Act, and most recently, the Affordable Care Act.
